I've been RPing for quite a while now and have seen a few forms of RP methods used, so I shall share with you those that I have seen.
The first one is a coded system as follows:
*= this is used to tell what the character is doing from a third point perspective
italics= used for character thoughts
Another system is the third person system:
No *, italics, or bold text is used for this. This method is more realistic and makes the RP look like a written story told by sevearl people. The only thing used is quotation marks for when a character talks.
Yet another system is the first person system:
This system is very much alike the third person one with the big exception of that, the story is told from your characters point of view. You tell the story from your characters point of view directly, other words, you are that person. I have only tried this once and isn't very easy.
Now for examples of each.
Code system
*Renai walks up to the guy from behind* Excuse me, do you know where the nearest inn is? *the man looks confused* This guy must be lost That way *He popints him towards the inn*.
Third person system
Renai walks up to the guy from behind "Excuse me, do you know where the nearest inn is?" The man looks at him weirdly and says to himself that Renai is crazy. "That way" he says while pointing him to the inn.
First person system
I walk up to this guy from behind and tap his shoulder "Excuse me, do you know where the nearest inn is" he looks at me strangely, with a look that says "this guy is crazy". "That way" he says while raising his hand and pointing out to me the direction of the inn.
If anyone else has anything to sat or add then feel free to post accordingly.
